The kicker comes when you turn the player on: The information displays in analog gauges that look like the dashboard of a racing car.

The Mach3Bass gave a little extra low end, but only after turning it up fairly high, which muddied the midrange quite a bit. We didn't like the MP Enhance feature and strongly preferred the more natural sound with the effect off.
The 3D Surround feature, which changes the spatial orientation of the music, is interesting, but we prefer the more natural sound without it. Other effects include panning and variable playback speed which we're a huge fan of. There's also an "L" version available, which features enhanced battery life. The "L" version of the player is a little thicker and heavier though and costs slightly more. It could also record directly from sources or record using a built in microphone.
Most videos must therefore be converted to be played back on the U3 using the provided software from Cowon.
